The claim
““Apple just announced it’s integrating ChatGPT directly into iOS 18 and Siri.””
Apple did announce ChatGPT integration across iOS 18/iPadOS 18/macOS Sequoia (including via Siri and Writing Tools), but it is optional, mediated by Apple, and not the same as replacing Siri with ChatGPT.
Apple announced at WWDC that it will integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT into the Apple Intelligence experience on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, allowing Siri to hand off certain requests to ChatGPT with user permission. The integration is presented as an optional capability: users are prompted before sending requests to ChatGPT, and Apple states IP addresses are obscured and that OpenAI should not store requests by default (with caveats if users sign into an OpenAI account). It is accurate that this is part of iOS 18 (and related OS releases), but framing it as “ChatGPT directly in Siri” can be misleading if interpreted as Siri being fully replaced or always routed through ChatGPT. Availability is also staged: Apple Intelligence features were announced with a later rollout rather than being fully available to everyone immediately upon OS release.
